(33,8) One always wants to be asked but it’s no secret that I
didn’t really want to judge this show, however I wouldn’t have
missed this opportunity for the world because to judge this open class
was just like Christmas! Each & every dog here was a special
package waiting to be opened & appreciated. It has to be one of
the best open classes ever with many of Europe ’s top stud dogs
present. I had the luxury of being able to indulge myself! Thank you
all. 1 Tunby’s Int/Nord/Dan/S/N/Pl/SV Ch Lab Treasure’s Dario, wow
what a dog! Contrary to my co judge, I did not feel that his 6 years
was a bar to top honours. The spring & energy in his movement, the
bloom & muscletone were of a top dog in his prime. This is a
classic black with the classic Labrador head & expression. Never
once was his energy out of control on the move, always at one with the
handler, he exemplified the best of this breed’s characteristics, an
athletic, active dog with the will to please, exuding kindness &
tolerance, looking capable of a day’s work in the field. CC. Lovely.
2 Hopkinson’s Sh Ch Silver Suede over Rocheby, when I went over this
yellow I could appreciate why he has won so much here in such a short
time. A truly beautiful dog who pleased me greatly. Expertly presented
in superb tone & condition he moved true & with drive. A dog
who will dominate the ring for a few more years yet! But there has to
be a winner & in this competition I was nit picking. The black had
a tad more flexibility & spring in his pasterns & hocks moving
& a touch less fullness in the cheek than this boy but it was a
close thing. RCC; 3 Barberi’s Loch Mor Well Done, liked this yellow
very much indeed. He has matured & has a finish this year that
takes him into the very top ranking. Shown very fit & in excellent
bloom he could well have won today had he settled in movement.
Excellent type. I can see no reason why he shouldn’t get his UK
title without too much difficulty. A lovely dog.
